The Impression coupe has been under construction in Moscow since 2003.

The style of Impression is a mixture of the Russo-Baltique designers' impressions from the Golden Age of the automotive industry - the 1930s - when car shapes won hearts both by their elegance and by their monumental size. For comfortable boarding, the car is equipped with rear-hinged doors.

The radiator grille of the Russo-Baltique Impression is crowned by the historical heraldic sign picturing the Russian two- headed eagle - the official emblem of a supplier to His Highness the Emperor's Court.

Something in between the fuoriserie and the prototype of a future limited production luxury car is the stunning Russo Baltique Impression, a monumental, 5.2 metres long, four seater coupe that marks the entry into the international scene of luxury automobiles by a Russian company. Indeed Russo Baltique is not a new entry. The brand was established in 1907 by the largest Russian maker of all sorts of vehicles (including the biggest aircraft built by 1914 world-wide engineered by Igor Sikorsky) with factories in Riga and St. Petersburg in the early years of the 20th century.

Russo-Baltique built its first car 1909. Production continued through 1923. Russo-Balt became the official supplier of vehicles to the Czar Court in 1917 after one of its earlier model, the 1912 Russo-Baltique C24-50, won two awards in the Monte-Carlo Rally, and on year later finished second in the San-Sebastian rally in Spain.

Ivan Shiskhin is the young man who wanted to re-establish the famous brand and has dedicated the past three years to his project. In his own words “the Primary mission of «Impression» is to educate the world about Russo-Baltique, a long forgotten national treasure and the berried pride of Russia’s automotive heritage.”

“This is not an easy task but to pay appropriate homage to Russo-Baltique, the best of its time, we chose to transport the viewer into the mind-frame of a Russo-Baltique customer in the1920s when the company created some of the most exquisite, solid and extravagant cars in its era.” According to Ivan, Impression “is inspired by this era, but is as exquisite, solid and extravagant as the best of the present times.” Well, there is no doubt that – apart from some naïf and somehow romantic details – this Impression, designed by the Georgian Zviad Tzikolia, is consequent with its name and not just for its size or price (of 50 million Russian roubles). It strikes for its flamboyant yet very well mastered shapes that are not ashamed of their romantic inspiration to some of the best Bugatti of the thirties.

Ivan Shishkin concedes that the style of Impression is a mixture of impressions from the Golden Age of the automotive industry – the 1930s – when car shapes won hearts both by their elegance and by their size impression.

For comfortable access and egress, much like the Rolls-Royce 101 EX, the car is equipped with rear-hinged doors and the dashboard is hand-made of a one-piece exotic African tree trunk, Zebrano, with naturally alternating black and white stripes. The steering-wheel rim and interior side panels are made of the samematerial. In combination with modern polished metal trims the design and the material create a very elegant and bright environment.

The actual prototype has been built in association with German specialist Gerg GmbH of Munich, from components provided by the DaimlerChrysler group and with carbon fibre bodywork.

Unofficial sources suggested that the car is built from the platform of the Mercedes-Benz CL 65 AMG but the size of the luxury-coupe seems to point to that of a long wheelbase S Class with a V12 twin-turbo engine from AMG.

Plans call for the production of two to three tailor-made units per year for a total of 15 Impression through 2010.
