В 1997 году на автосалоне в Женеве компания Gigliato Design представила прототип Aerosa. Это был совместный проект итальянской компании Automobili Lamborghini и японского ателье Gigliato. На автомобиле стоял специально модифицированный 4,6 литровый двгатель Ford V8, обладающий достаточной мощностью, чтобы разгонять этот небольшой автомобиль до сотни менее чем за пять секунд.

Ателье Gigliato Design было основано Нобио Накамурой (Nobuo Nakamura), японским дизайнером и названо в честь его жены. Еще в 1995 году между двумя компаниями было подписано соглашение о разработке и производстве спорткара.

В связи с жестким Японским законодательством, планировалось, что производство будет налажено в Англии, а Gigliato Design будет импортировать автомобиль в Японию.

Договором c Lamborghini предполагалось, что автомобиль ценой около 65000 долларов будет запущен в серийное производство в начале 1999 года. Однако в связи с финансовыми проблемами и со сменой руководства фирмы в 1998 году проект был закрыт. Так Aerosa осталась изготовленной в единственном экзампляре.


On the 1997 Geneva Auto Show, Gigliato Design presented a new Sportcar, the Aerosa. Automobili Lamborghini and Gigliato Design were to build this car as a Joint-venture between Japan and Europe. The engine was a special 4.8 Litre Ford Mustang V8, pumping out enough horsepower for this small racecar to arrive at 100 Km/h. in less than 5 seconds.

The car would be entering several races through out Europe, Japan and the United States, were it should have posed quiet a threath to the McLaren F1 and Porsche GT1 racecars which dominated their classes.

If this car would become a competitor for the Diablo SVR or GTR model was yet to be seen, perhaps both cars won't compete in the same races.

The Gigliato Design studio was founded by Nobuo Nakamura, a Japanese designer, apparently the name Gigliato sounds similar to his wife's name, while Giglio means 'Lily'.

Because of the strict regulations the Aerosa was designed outside of Japan and later import them, a decision was made to assemble the car in England. In 1997 Gigliato announced a partnership with Lamborghini for deal with engineering, production component supply, delivery and marketing. The plan was to sell the Japanese-designed car from a headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany. Furthermore, Gigliato anounced a motorsports program for 1998 including a stop at Le Mans. At this time the car was changed to include fixed front headlights and gold wheels.

The Aerosa hasn't been seen recently, so perhaps it will remain a lonely prototype, like so many Lamborghini based dreamcars in the past.
