2005 Nissan Pivo

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.,unveiled Pivo, its imaginative electric car concept, in partnership with renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami at the company’s Nissan Ginza Gallery in downtown Tokyo. Pivo, which will be on display at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, features an innovative cabin that revolves 360 degrees, eliminating the need to reverse. Thanks to its compact body, the car is also exceptionally easy to maneuver. The three-seater car comes with a number of user-friendly technologies, including Nissan’s Around View Monitor which reduces blind spots by displaying the outside surroundings on screens mounted on the inside of the car’s A-pillars located on either side of the windshield. A dash-mounted infrared (IR) commander allows the driver to operate the navigation and stereo systems with simple finger movements without letting go of the steering wheel. Pivo is powered by Nissan’s compact, high-performance lithium-ion battery and its unique Super Motor, resulting in zero emissions. The gallery space for the Pivo event, which was designed by Murakami, features a futuristic vegetable garden installation, as well as large balloons and illustrations of "Pivo-chan," a character he designed based on the concept car’s inspiring image.

At first sight, the Pivo looks like another one of those famously wacky, futuristic Tokyo show specials. But it's actually quite clever when you take a closer look.

The Pivo's bubble-shaped cabin can turn a full 360 degrees on its axis, saving its driver the hassle of ever having to engage reverse gear. You pull into a parking space facing forward, and when it's time to leave, you spin the cabin around (the bottom half of the body stays static, of course) and drive out the way you came. Drive-by-wire technology, which does away with any mechanical connections for steering, brakes, and transmission in this case, makes it possible.

The 106-inch-long Pivo (the name comes from the fact that it pivots) also has a cleverly packaged, electric all-wheel-drive chassis and tiny outboard cameras to give state-of-the-art, 360-degree visibility. Its oh-so-cute styling is Nissan's deliberate attempt to attract young, Japanese girls, whom they hope will gush and say the design is kawaii, or cute.

Реверс Pivo (от английского pivot – вращаться) совершенно ни к чему, как, собственно, и трансмиссия. Пара электрических двухвальных Super Motor, питаемых от плоской литий-ионной батареи, обеспечивают машинке полный привод. Все управление – по проводам. Разведывательный БТР вермахта модели 321 с двумя смотрящими в противоход кабинами отдыхает! Обитаемая капсула Pivo, этакая клюковка в сахаре, напичкана электроникой под завязку. Обладай таким монитором кругового обзора батискаф российских ВМС, он никогда не запутался бы в браконьерских сетях. Интерфейс управления «навигацией» и аудиосистемой Pivo, использующий ИК-камеру, обучен понимать язык жестов. Показал, будто загружаешь компакт-диск, – и готово дело, включилась музыка. А закружилась голова от всей этой фантасмагории, выйди и присядь на «завалинку» – отделанные мягким материалом переднюю и заднюю часть платформы Pivo. Или наоборот? Леший его знает!
