AD (Advanced Design) 2
Design - Kengo Ishida
Designed as a luxury 6-passenger sedan, the AD-2 featured a L28E 2.8-litre EFI inline-6 with a 4-link rear from the Nissan Laurel. The body promoted flared body panels, an airdam, and a rear wrap-around window for increased visibility.
The Nissan AD-2 of 1977 must be one of the oddest looking concept cars ever with it’s sharp edges and ungainly proportions. It’s quite strange that after their soft edged ESV’s of the early seventies they would then come up with this.
The car did benefit from excellent all round visibility thanks to slim pillars and a wrap around rear screen. The running gear consisted of an L28E, 2.8 litre in-line six and suspension from the Laurel including a live rear axle. The squared off styling does hint at the styling of large Nissans that were to follow in the 1980’s like the Y30 Cedric and R30 and R31 Skylines.
