The Volt Concept is the first application of GM’s E-Flex System, in which electricity can be produced from different types of fuel. It is equipped with an electrical motor coupled with a compact 1-liter gasoline engine that can re-charge the battery, increasing range and fuel economy.
Created for an urban-centric lifestyle, the Chevrolet Volt was a 5-passenger sedan concept with a unitized frame, electric propulsion and front-wheel drive. About the size of the ’07 Cobalt, the futuristic Volt’s styling featured short front and rear overhangs with the driver placed far rearward of the large 21-inch front wheels. The roof, side glass and beltline were constructed of GE Plastics transparent, glazed polycarbonate material that deliverd the scratch resistance and gloss surface appearance of glass combined with the formability of a plastic composite. Inside the cabin, the environment was defined by a host of current or near-term technologies and materials. The dual-mode instrument cluster used Super Imaging that provided 3D LED displays with 4-color illumination and animation data. Along with the electrically driven system, there was a 3-cylinder turbocharged engine to extend the range of travel.


Этот компактный хэтч привлек бы внимание уже чистотой линий кузова и оригинально выполненными элементами салона. И все же начинка Volt в сто крат интереснее! Перед нами, ни много ни мало, совершенно новый тип «гибридомобиля» (HV). Так инженеры GM ответили на поставленную год назад Бобом Лутцем задачу утереть нос японцам. «Тойотовские» HV используют электротягу как вспомогательный вариант? Превратим же его в основной! Нет, единственный! Литровый 3-цилиндровый турбодвигатель внутреннего сгорания нужен Volt лишь как источник энергии для 53-киловаттного мотора-генератора, вращающего колеса и заряжающего блок аккумуляторов, да и то не всегда. Проезжающие в день менее 65 км (а это 70% американских водителей) никогда не будут заливать бензин в 45-литровый бак, ведь в отличие от известных HV Volt способен заряжать свои батареи от обычной сети! Но и в самом крайнем случае машинка ограничится 4,7 л бензина на 100 км, хотя ее скорость достигает внушительных 193 км/ч, а запас хода при участии ДВС – 1032 км! Разительный контраст с классическим электромобилем EV1 (129 км/ч; 145 км), с которым GM намаялся в конце 90-х. Так что же, японцам пора делать себе харакири? Не так скоро. Используемые Volt литий-ионные батареи пока слишком дороги, пожароопасны и имеют сравнительно небольшой ресурс. Решить проблему GM намерен лет через пять...

This is a SAAB built Chassi.
And also the design is.
I have seen the SAAB before this came up, but after a short time, GM redesigned it to a Chevy. The last picture, wit the windtest is the first rebranded consept.
After it got more sharpe edges.
Sadly for GM that the let SAAB down, GM ppl, did never understand the power from SAAB, into GM, what it could have been, just if they had listened a bit more, and have let SAAB do some things more SAABish, then it would have been win, win today.
For now GM have to dump prices even on Chevys in Europe. When are they going to understand?
A rebranded Deawoo will never be a Chevy, and a Chevy shall never have a rebranded car into a Opel, Vauxhall, or when it was a SAAB.
If the had let Opel and SAAB take the responsibilyti for the Europe market, they had been in a fight with VW at the top right now.

I think GM lives on the time of the edge, and will fall soon again. When the money from US-state stops to pump into GM, its the end for ever.
And that day will come soner then you think.
