Nissan’s Evolving Electric Vehicle

Nissan’s FEV-II is a comfortable personal coupe for the future.
Shown at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show, the FEV-II was the electric car of the future and utilized a lithium ion electric batteries which offer about three times more energy density than lead-acid batteries and up to two times more than nickel batteries. The FEV-II had a FWD layout with a weight of 3120.1 lbs.

Electric cars have recently been attracting worldwide attention from the viewpoint of global environmental conservation, and many countries are engaged in R&D.

Under a policy coexistence of people, cars and nature Nissan has been committed to treating environmental problems seriously.

Nissan has consistently been forward-looking in developing electric vehicles parallel with its efforts to develop an exhaust gas purifier, totally discontinue the use of chlorofluoro carbons (CFCs), recycle parts and materials, and challenge other tasks. As part of its efforts, Nissan has developed the Cedric EV, Avenir EV and other electric vehicles, which have been used by customers daily.

The FEV-II is equipped with a power train, controller, batteries and other parts employing most advanced technologies being researched and developed by Nissan, based on knowledge acquired during the development and operation process.

Design Concept:

The theme for the exterior of the FEV-II is the creation of new values for cars. A feeling of nimbleness is provided to the upper part of the vehicle body and a feeling of stability to the lower part. The two parts are clearly distinguished by a waist line to highlight the car’s presence. The theme for the interiors is a merging of high technology and natural warmth. The instrument panel uses a soft material. The low seat back provides a roomy seating feeling. The color is a natural earth color. The carpet and seat cloth are made of materials recycled from plastic bottles and others.

Compact and High-Speed Revolution Power Train

The size of the motor is equivalent to an A4-size notebook. The optimum design of the magnetic circuit generates a large output torque. In addition to energy recovery by regeneration, energy can be consumed efficiently.

Batteries

The vehicle is equipped with lithium ion batteries that are under research and development featuring high density, light weight and long life. The driving range per one charge has been greatly increased. The proposal of the EV personal coupe has become more realistic than ever.
