Dodge PowerBox Concept, 2001 (Los Angeles Auto Show)
We're not quite sure how to categorize the styling of Dodge's seven-passenger PowerBox concept truck, except to say that the machine is big and intimidating enough that we're not going to say anything disapproving. Besides, the real news is what's underneath those muscular flanks. Dodge's latest creation utilizes a hybrid powertrain. The primary motivation comes from a supercharged, 2.7-liter V-6 burning emissions-clean compressed natural gas. For extra power when climbing hills or passing, though, the PowerBox also includes an electric motor that kicks in as needed -- delivering up to 320 total horsepower. Not bad for a vehicle that also happens to get 25 miles per gallon. The PowerBox is also equipped with a unique "combo-gate" rear door that opens up or down, depending on the user's needs.
