A preview of this luxury Coupe has already been offered in the form of the concept car AVANTIME: it combines all the driving sensations and aesthetics of a Grand Touring coupe, plus unexpected virtues such as panoramic vision, interior brilliance, high-set driving position, etc.

With the Avantime concept car, Renault’s aim was to develop a completely new-look architecture to mark the close of the millennium: a new top-of-the-range coupe concept. Sporty, dynamic, aesthetic, comfortable, elegant and ever so slightly "alternative", this vehicle is the most eloquent possible illustration of Renault’s capacity and culture for innovation.
The Avantime was put into production virtually unchanged but didn’t connect with consumers. Production ceased in 2003.

Называется этот необычный автомобиль Avantime. Французским журналистам машину показали еще в начале февраля, в Женеве состоялась официальная премьера.
Avantime необычен в первую очередь формой кузова, представляющего собой гибрид купе и мини-вэна. Переходящее в крышу лобовое стекло напоминает об экстравагантном прошлогоднем концепте Vel Satis.
Автомобиль четырехместный, салон отделан по классу "люкс". Люксовость не только в избытке кожи и дерева, но и в обилии простора и света в салоне. Особенно комфортабельны задние сиденья, доступ к ним облегчают широкие двери, которые открываются вбок и вверх. Привод передний, коробка 6-ступенчатая механическая, двигатель - 3 л 24-клапанный V6 мощностью 250 л.с.
Создавался Avantime совместными усилиями Renault SA и Matra Automobile - давними партнерами, которые входят в конгломерат Lagardere (именно благодаря этому альянсу появился на свет Renault Espace). Выпускать серийную версию будут на заводе Matra. Не вполне ясно пока, будет ли она "чистой" заменой стареющему Safrane или займет промежуточное положение между Safrane и Espace.
