1992 Renault Zoom

1992 Zoom was a vision of a perfect city car. First time shown at Paris show. It was developed together with Matra. It is equipped with an electric motor and a modular wheelbase which can switch between 2,30 cm and 2,65 cm.Makes finding a parking spot a piece of cake!

Styled very much of the era, Zoom was an urban and suburban concept car born of common research by Renault and Matra into modern electric vehicles. Zoom was a relatively early venture into the world of city runabouts and utilised an electric power system in addition to a variable wheelbase.

Features

- Exterior architecture optimizes vehicle footprint, thereby helping ease urban and suburban traffic flows

- Modular wheelbase is variable between 2.65m and 2.30m when the vehicle is stopped. Width remains constant at 1.52m, which means Zoom is 23cm higher in retracted wheelbase configuration

- Two beetle-wing doors mounted on 9É-inclined axes reduce lateral bodywork clearance to a minimum and make Zoom easy to use in the tightest of spots

- Communication centre mounted between the two seats housing hands-free telephone and power-up control for Carminat navigation system

- 25kW engine is 90 percent recyclable, contributing to protection of the environment

Эта кроха, созданная совместными усилиями Renault и Matra, появилась на шесть лет раньше «Смарта», но, к сожалению, так и не пошла в серию. Главная особенность Renault Zoom: для более легкой парковки он умел подбирать под себя задние «лапки», то есть колеса. В результате его длина уменьшалась с 2650 до 2300 миллиметров (сам автомобиль при этом становился выше на 230 миллиметров). Для сравнения, длина «Смарта» – ровно 2500 миллиметров.

Двухместный автомобиль приводился в движение электромотором мощностью 61 лошадиных сил, а для того, чтобы пассажирам было удобно выходить на тесных парковках, двери открывались вверх, как у Lamborghini.
