1968 Ferrari 250 P5 Berlinetta Speciale
Designed by Pininfarina in 1968, the Ferrari P5 was first shown at the 1968 Geneva Motorshow. The Ferrari 250 P5 Berlinetta Speciale was was constructed using a P4 chassis and had a 3 litre mid-mounted V-12 engine. The car was a study in aerodynamics and design and it helped influence later day production Ferrari's, most notably the clear rear glass over the engine.
Pinifarina also produced another similar prototype called the Alfa Romeo 33 Coupe Prototipo Speciale.
Introduced at the 1968 Geneva Show, this Ferrari 250 P5 Berlinetta Speciale showcar was built as a collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina. It was constructed using a P4 chassis and has a mid-mounted V-12 engine displacing three liters. The concept was a study in aerodynamics, form and potential designs. The radical design of the car was not loved by everyone - but the car did carry a few design elements that would make their way into later day production vehicles. Most notably, this car has clear rear glass over the engine, much like many modern Ferraris do today.
Pinifarina produced another very similar prototype badged as an Alfa Romeo. That car, the 33 Coupe Prototipo Speciale, was painted bright yellow and was introduced at the Paris Motor Show of 1969.
