Just two were ever made, one for Gianni Agnelli, the other for Henry Ford.
Pinin Farina of Turin exhibits for the first time his open-bodied land-cruiser on the Fiat Multipla chassis. It was bought by Henry Ford II on the opening day. Two hundred are being made; with its step-over sides and duck-board seats (to accommodate eight adults in comfort or 15 youngsters at a pinch) it is a brilliant conception for a holiday run-about in sunny climates.
Why catch the bus to the beach when you and eight others can squeeze into this chic creation? Pininfarina’s 1956 Fiat Multipla ‘Eden Roc’ was designed for use at the Villa Leopolda in Villefranche-sur-Mer, the Agnelli’s personal home. Allegedly, Henry Ford bought one the day it went on sale. We can’t say we’re surprised – the Eden Roc is about as close to a land-based Riva as you’d ever find.
