At the 2010 Beijing Auto Show Ford will unveil the Start Concept, an eco-efficient compact vehicle that expresses the company's vision for the future of urban transportation in growing markets. Among the features is the 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine and the use of advanced lightweight materials.
It seems that small car icons always come from Europe-the Volkswagen Beetle, the Fiat 500, the Mini Cooper. But looking at the Ford Start, one begins to wonder whether an American car company also could make a truly enduring small car. We think this coupe-and it is a coupe, not a hatchback-is supercool, which is not surprising given that the design team had a 1956 Porsche Speedster and a 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato in the studio while they worked on the Start. The concept is built on a shortened Fiesta platform and features a direct-injected, 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, Ford's smallest powerplant yet to get the EcoBoost treatment. The tiny turbo is headed for production, but the Start isn't. That's too bad, because the Start definitely deserves a go.

Как говорится в официальном пресс-релизе, машина построена для демонстрации нового турбомотора из линейки EcoBoost – рядного трехцилиндрового агрегата объемом один литр, оснащенного системой непосредственного впрыска топлива.

Точная мощность нового двигателя, работающего в паре с шестиступенчатой "механикой", не сообщается. В Ford лишь уточняют, что его характеристики будут сопоставимы с показателями 1,6-литровых "четверок". Согласно появлявшейся ранее информации, подобный агрегат на серийных машинах будет доступен в двух версиях - 89 и 108 лошадиных сил. Уровень выбросов углекислого газа литрового EcoBoost не превысит 100 граммов на километр.

Четырехместный концепт-кар Ford Start будет построен с использованием легких кузовных панелей, изготовленных из перерабатываемых композитных материалов, которые станут крепиться на алюминиевое шасси. Кроме того, у автомобиля практически полностью отсутствуют задние стойки, что обеспечивает 180-градусный угол обзора, стекла закреплены заподлицо с панелями, а крыша является съемной.

По словам представителей Ford, выпуск серийной версии концепт-кара Start не планируется, однако в компании заинтересованы в получении отзывов посетителей Пекинской выставки о дизайне прототипа, а также о самом автомобиле в целом. В связи с этим, при положительной реакции публики на машину, не исключено, что созданная по мотивам "Старта" машина все же появится на конвейере в качестве, например, модели Puma нового поколения.
